Terms of use
The site is free. Here is what that does and does not buy you.
Custailo is a free, public reading site with no accounts and nothing to buy. These terms exist mostly to be honest about two things: what you may do with what we publish, and how far you should lean on it. The second one matters more.
The short version
Read anything here, quote it, share it, print it for a friend. Do not treat it as advice about your own case, and check anything that matters against the official source before you act. That is the whole agreement, and everything below is the longer form of it.
Who we are
Custailo is published by Custailo Limited (NZBN 9429052388170), a New Zealand registered company based in Auckland. "We" and "us" mean Custailo Limited. "You" means anyone using the site.
By using the site you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, the honest answer is simply not to use the site. There is nothing here you are locked into.
Using the site
You may read, search, link to, quote and share anything we publish, for any purpose including a commercial one, as long as you say it came from Custailo and do not present it as your own work or as ours when you have changed it.
Things we ask you not to do, because they hurt other readers rather than because we are precious:
- Scrape the site at a volume that degrades it for other people. If you want the data in bulk, ask us. We would rather give it to you than have you hammer the server.
- Copy a page wholesale onto another site in a way that makes it look like the official version, particularly with the figures stripped of their sources and dates. A number without its source is the exact problem Custailo exists to fix.
- Republish our material with the disclaimers removed, or in a way that suggests we are licensed to give advice, or that we endorse a service, adviser or agent.
- Attempt to break into, disrupt or misuse the site or anything connected to it.
There are no accounts, no logins and nothing to buy, so there is nothing to suspend. If you are doing something in the list above, we will ask you to stop, and if necessary we will block the traffic.
Information, not advice
This is the clause that matters most, so it is not buried at the bottom.
Custailo publishes general information. It does not take account of your circumstances, your visa, your family, your finances or your plans. It is not immigration advice, legal advice, financial advice or tax advice, and we are not licensed to give any of those.
In New Zealand, immigration advice may only be given by advisers licensed by the Immigration Advisers Authority and by people the law exempts, such as New Zealand lawyers. We are neither. We do not assess whether you qualify for anything, do not recommend a visa category, do not help with applications and do not comment on individual cases, and we will not do any of those things if you write and ask us to. What we will do is point you at the IAA register so you can check for yourself that whoever you are talking to is licensed.
Nothing on this site creates a professional relationship of any kind between you and us.
Accuracy
We are building to a rule of sourcing and dating every figure and re-checking on a schedule; figures that have not been through that process are labelled. We still cannot promise that everything here is correct and current at the moment you read it. Rules change, sometimes overnight; sources are themselves sometimes wrong or behind; and there is always a gap between a change and our update.
So: where our information and an official source disagree, the official source is right. Your own visa conditions beat anything we publish. Most figures carry a named source and check date; any that do not yet are labelled as estimates.
If you find something wrong, the corrections policy says exactly what happens next.
Our content, and yours
The writing, layout, design, the Custailo name and the mark are ours, except where we say otherwise. Government material we quote or adapt remains the Crown's, and much of it is published under a Creative Commons licence which we follow and attribute.
If you send us a correction, a source or a suggestion, you are giving us permission to use it on the site and to credit you by name if you want to be credited. You keep whatever rights you had in it. We will not claim your work as ours.
Links and third parties
We link out constantly, because the official source is the point. We do not control those sites, we are not responsible for what is on them or what they do with your information, and a link is not an endorsement.
If we ever list a licensed adviser, the listing shows that a licence number was checked against the public register on the date shown. It is not a recommendation, a vouching, or a statement that they are any good.
Emails you sign up for
If you give us your email address we will send you the guide you asked for and occasional updates when something material on the site changes. Every email has a working unsubscribe link and using it takes effect immediately. What we do with the address is set out in the privacy policy.
We do not currently send you commercial offers from other people, or pass your address to an adviser, agent, recruiter, bank or insurer. If that ever changes, the privacy policy will say so before it happens.
Money and independence
Custailo is free to read and there is nothing to buy. If we are ever paid for something that appears on the site (a sponsorship, an affiliate arrangement, a paid listing), we will say so plainly on the page where it appears, not in a footnote here.
There are no sponsorships, affiliate arrangements or paid listings on the site today.
Liability
The site is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be available, uninterrupted, or free of errors.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from your use of the site or from relying on anything published here, including a decision made, or not made, about a visa, a job, a tenancy, a course or money. This does not affect any rights you have that cannot legally be excluded, and we do not attempt to exclude liability for fraud, or for anything else the law says cannot be excluded.
What we would rather say, and mean: if something here is wrong, tell us and we will fix it and date the fix. That is a better protection for you than a clause.
Changes and availability
We update the site constantly. That is the product. We may change, move or remove pages, and we may change these terms. Material changes to these terms will be dated at the top of this page and described, not slipped in.
We may stop publishing at any time. If that ever happens we will say so on the site rather than letting it go quiet.
Which law applies
These terms are governed by New Zealand law, and the New Zealand courts have jurisdiction.
The full disclaimer is on the About page and applies to this page as it does to every other.
